Twelve plus hour days at work + generally terrible cooking skills + a lack of patience = eating out, a lot
This momentarily changed when I found out I was wheat sensitive, but gradually I'm moving away from my ice cream dinners and have begun to eat real food again :)
One of my absolute favorite places to eat is CHIPOTLE!
Chipootle!!! Chipotopple... ChipoDelicious! |
1. The food is fresh and delicious! I especially love the carnitas... but, the chicken, beef, and veggies are also quite tasty. And the guacamole!!! Made from fresh avocados... how do they do it so well each time?
2. After foregoing the flour wraps, and potentially the red tomatillo salsa, everything at Chipotle is wheat-free.
Yes, apparently even the corn chips (which I did not know until visiting their website).
For the extremely sensitive, a change of gloves request may be necessary, but after that you should be good to go.
3. Did I mention the food is delicious?
Anywho... here's a pic of an empty bag. I forgot to take an image of the food before devouring it.
Note to self: In the future, take picture then feast.
Thank you Mrs. Crocker! Boxed Gluten free chocolate cake... superb! |
After dinner tonight, my sweet roommate surprised me with gluten free CHOCOLATE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, let me explain the excitement (aka. the multiple !!!s): When I went gluten-free, I greatly mourned the loss of all baked goods. Cupcakes, cookies, danishes, croissants... I loved them all dearly and miss them equally so. Gradually, I'm learning that I can literally have my cake and eat it too. Trader Joes has an excellent flourless chocolate cake. However, being the excellent cook that I am (yes, insert sarcasm here), I have begun to play with the new Better Crocker Gluten free box mixes. Last week I tried the chocolate chip cookies and they were delicious, but... I'm sorry to say very (very) gritty... like corn meal grit. I still ate nearly all of the 24 cookies I made from the box, but my gluten eating roommate won't touch them.
I'm happy to report that the cake mix is much better. My roommate, being the clever lady she is, added some chocolate chips to the mix, making it even more moist and rich! The final product is a very tasty, and still slightly gritty (but, not nearly as much as the cookies), chocolate cake. :))))))))) <-- yes, I'm still grinning just thinking about it! Oh cake! How I have missed you!
In the Crocker gluten free series there are 4 mixes: chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, yellow cake, and chocolate brownies.
We found these mixes at our local Ralphs. They were about $5.00 a box. A bit steep for a boxed mix, but in my opinion well worth it. Thank you Mrs. Crocker!!! I look forward to more gluten-free creations!
